Since this weekend was pretty full of events we decided to go out to eat for our anniversary on Thursday night. Richard surprised me with wine tasting at a local winery, Watts Roost Vineyard. It was so great to be able to talk to the growers and listen to their journey through the last few years starting up the winery. Richard tended to favor the more robust oak barrel flavored wine, while I definitely leaned towards the fruitier Blackberry wine. Watts Roost is an excellent 30 acre get-away owned by a single couple. They are in the process of expanding their plots to an additional 10 acres, and well over due I shall say. The wine was excellent and the company couldn't have been better. After that, we went to the country club for a juicy steak dinner with the perfect table overlooking hole 18.
We spent July 4th relaxing and helping our friends Shawn and Tara get ready for their wedding on Saturday. We helped cook out for their rehearsal dinner at the school and then went over to the Greenbrier to see fireworks. The resort community atmosphere was nice; it really reminded us of a 1960's Dirty Dancing/CaddyShack type of preppy place. Either way we enjoyed the 20 minute fireworks & music from the symphony band over looking the golf course. They had some of the brightest fireworks I've ever seen. It was pretty impressive.
We are also watching a house for a professor that Rich is working for this summer. His wife is a Vet, so they have 5 cats, 2 bunnies, and 2 snakes. Two of the cats get different food and different medicine and one of the bunnies needs penicillin shots. So to say the least it takes both of us to keep it all straight.
Saturday evening we spent at the wedding and Sunday we helped decorate church for Vacation Bible School. We are going to be helping with VBS this whole week. Monday we are planning on trying our wedding cake that Gayle sent us for our one year anniversary. Hopefully it has kept well through the past year. We'll let you know how it goes.
