Mammy and Pappy took Paige back to Texas with them at the end of May. Which allowed Richard and I to take a scenic route to Texas and enjoy a few nights of vacation. We decided to head to Asheviille, North Carolina. We wanted to cross the Smoky Mountains off our list and I really wanted to visit the Biltmore Mansion.
Heading into Northern Carolinas
An amazing view along the Blue Ridge Parkway after we checked into our Bed and Breakfast in Waynesville.
Another view, they actually look Smoky!
Beautiful tunnels on the Parkway
Heading up to Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the Smokys.
Seeing black bear cubs playing off the trail. Mom was soon to follow.
Bare trees at the top.
Panoramic from the look out tower.
Waiting on sunset and trying to stay out of the cold wind.
Sun setting but it took a long time since we could see so far.
Everyone else was trying to get a great shot also.
We enjoyed driving around the beautiful mountains of North Carolina and always taking a different way home.
The next day we went to visit the Biltmore Mansion. I pretty much had to drag Richard there, but as soon as we got close enough he was in love too.
My favorite part is the Cantilevered Grand Staircase.
The tour of the house was incredible and I am ready to go back! The more we learned the more we liked it all. Richard was Goggling the Indiana Limestone, that is used in the whole house, before we even left the house.
We strolled through the Gardens since everything was in bloom.
Beautiful Roses!
Stopping to smell!
The Greenhouse on the property

Then it was off to the Winery on the back of the property. We took the tour and of course the tasting!

We brought home our favorites
That evening we headed south to meet friends, Katie and Jeremy, from college who now live in South Carolina. You cant pass up an opportunity when you are only 2 hours away. It had been 5 years since we have seen them. It was such a great dinner and I loved getting to meet their daughter and son for the first time.

The next morning it was time to head to Texas. Richard had been looking at routes to take home for a while, so I knew he was up to something. He located the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee. So we had to make a detour.
The brickyard where they prepare the charcoal to filter the whiskey.
The spring where they get all the water to use in the preparation of their whiskey.
Then we headed west to Texas for a weeks visit and to get our babies.
