Home for Christmas and New Years

Richard and I got to go home for two weeks to see our families for Christmas and ring in 2009. We absolutely loved the time we spent in Texas and were in no way ready to leave. We made the trip safely and both dogs did very well. We originally planned to leave later than we did, so when plans changed we did not tell Richard's family. Instead we surprised them and showed up early! They were all shocked to see us. It turned out to be a very good idea because they didn't worry about us on the road. But we did have trouble tracking down Richard's parents, who never really know what their plans are. So we added a few miles to the trip hunting them down. We may not try that again ;)
We spent Christmas Day with my family and took advantage of some of the after Christmas deals. Christmas with Richards’s family was an event as it always is, see pictures below. We got to spend some time with our nieces and nephews and really enjoyed watching them open up presents. Ethan, 3 yrs old, really wanted a 'Real' sword and 'Real' whip for Christmas. If you can’t tell, he likes Jack Sparrow and Indiana Jones. Of course, his Pappy came through! Don't worry though, his sword (as tall as he is) hasn't been sharpened; but he loves it nonetheless.
We spent the morning of New Years Day getting ready for the Dallas Cotton Bowl Parade. Richard and his dad are members of the Dallas County Sheriff's Posse and got to be a part of the parade. Ethan practiced with the whip while we were waiting for it to start. That evening, we spent some time at the Great Wolf Lodge. For Christmas, Richard's parents got two suites for 15 people and a day at the 80,000 square foot Indoor Water Park! So we ended up getting a vacation in a vacation. It was amazing to be swimming in January and not worry about sun block.
We really enjoyed ourselves, and besides Richard having a sore throat on the way home, everything went well. We are refreshed and recharged by our loving families. Off to start a great 2009 with Richard's last semester in class!
